A native American braces his 35-40 ft dugout canoe against a boulder in the Columbia River, near to Celilo Falles at The Dalles. Photographed by Benjamin A. Gifford in 1897, on a 5x7 glass plate. This was the West's greatest early photographer (1859 - 1936). His studio was located in the 200 block E second St. The Dalles OR. From 1885 - 1910.
