Deschutes River Near South Junction

According to Oregon Geographic Names, 6th Edition, by Lewis L. McArthur, p. 565:

When the two railroads were building up the Deschutes River Canyon in 1912, an arrangement was made to share joint track for about 12 miles from to North Junction to South Junction, where they planned to split again as the canyon widened. The split never occurred. The tracks of Burlington Northern still cross a bridge from the west side to the east at this point but never return to the east side at South Junction. The plan to lay track from here to the Metolius was abandoned, but he name stayed even though it was not a junction point.
