According to Oregon Geographic Names, 6th Edition, by Lewis L. McArthur, p. 880:

Wamic was named for early settlers named Womack. Asa and LeviWomack and their nephew Crawford had a unique system of dividing the week. Each chose for a day and the others assisted. Asa would have all work in their blacksmith shop on his day. The next day Levi would select sitting in front of the shop to "chew the rag" and whittle. On Crawford's day, they would most likely go hunting or fishing. Then they would begin the cycle again. Post office established Nov. 25, 1884 with James W. Sanford as postmaster.
